Brain Break

I'm taking a well deserved brain break. What is a brain break, that's where you do something other than what you have been concentrating on for the last two hours. I just got a new laptop and I am trying to get it set up for Java Development and it has been a real pain. But it is working so far so I can't complain. While things have been installing, I've been cleaning up another server that is due to be taken off the network in a few days. That has been a fun job. There is a lot still to do to clean it up on the new server, but that will come over time.

In Sports: Today seems to be a slow day for the sports world. No baseball going on that I really care about, not that I really care about baseball anyway. The golf that is happening is one of those tournaments that doesn't seem to be that important to some golfers, Phil, Tiger, Mike Weir, just to name a few.

AAAGGGHHH 18 MONTH OLDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

18 month olds are a pain in the butt. I have absolutly had it. Bree doesn't know the meaning of "no". Either that or she chooses to ignore it. That is probably the case. She has suddenly decided that she can climb on everything. She throws tantrums where she drops to her knees or her bum and flings herself backwards. This morning, instead of trying to slow her down or cushion her as she did that, I let her go. She hit her head on the floor and started to cry even harder. Maybe she'll learn. At this point, I don't want to be the mom of an 18 month old. Or a 3 year old for that matter. The boy won't listen either. He puts his hands to his ears and waves them around and says nanny-nanny-nanny when I ask him to stop. He does things on purpose knowing full well that he isn't supposed to do them. He can break into tears if you look at him cross-eyed. Grrrr, I want to go shopping. Tiaree is the only one who is even remotely being good today. Notice I said remotely. She just turns her ears off. You can ask her something 3 or 4 times and she just sits there. Sometimes it seems the only thing that makes her listen is yelling. But right now, she is the bright spot. Pretty sad huh. I need a girls night out, desperatly.

Movie Review - The 5 People You Meet in Heaven

We have a membership to the local video store Hollywood Video in which we pay a monthly fee and then we can check out as many movies as we want that are on the program. Most new releases are not on the list until about 6 to 8 weeks after they are put on video.

Last night, we got The Five People You Meet In Heaven. I was really impressed with this movie. It reviews the end of the life of one man. It shows a lot of the things that he sees and does through what he feels is a very wasted life. By the end of the movie, he realizes how much of an impact his life did have.

The thought of this movie is that when you die, you meet and spend some time with 5 people you've met in life, you affected in your life, or who's life affected you. During that time, you review your life and learn things that you couldn't learn on Earth.

I would recommend this video. 2 big thumbs up!!!

Sore, Sore, Sore

So, I didn't post yesterday, it was a pretty long day. I was at work at about 5:20 to upgrade some software. The upgrade went well. Then I worked until 2 and went home and got some lunch. Then we put a walkway next to the driveway, it makes it look really nice. That was a job, let me tell you. We started at about 3 and finshed around 6 then I worked on some other stuff and went in around 8:30 I think. I went in and I was sore then. Got up this morning to ride the bus into work and could feel the pain in my body. It's good for me though, I'm getting fat and lazy, so some hard labor will help me out. All in all it was a good day and now I'm at work, trying to think of things I can do sitting at my desk. Don't want to get up too much. I do get to go to lunch with my family today, which is cool.

I brought my umbrella to work today, which probably looked really funny because the sky was clear and beautiful. At the train station, a guy asked me if it was supposed to rain, I mentioned that that's what the weather man said. He didn't sound too excited. So if it rains, I'm ready, if not, no pain was involved.

In Sports: The Mets lost to Atlanta in their last meeting and play again today. The NBA playoffs are going on right now. I don't have a clear favorite to win the Championship this year, as long as it's not Sacramento or Dallas. I don't know why I don't like them, I just don't. Next year, I hope the Jazz will at least make it to the playoffs.

Short Lunch Break

Well I am taking a short lunch break today because we are leaving earlier than normal. We usually leave at 4:30, but today we are leaving at 4. Which is nice because then I can get home and get some stuff done.

We finished the garden on Saturday and started looking at starting the rest of the yard but it started to rain, which in meant, time to go inside and relax. It was a good day to get things done, the kids loved playing outside. Even in the rain, that was a lot of fun. Then we watched Hook, and went to bed, that was Saturday. On Sunday you could read B's post. Basically the same stuff, chruch, family stuff, eat, play, bed. Nothing to terribly exciting.

In Sports: The Niners picked Alex Smith #1, which is a good thing. I think that I might be able to get excited about football again. It was a depressing year in sports for me, come to think of it. Niners go 2 and 14 last season and the Jazz finish in the bottom rungs of the NBA. Let's look forward and not back. The Mets took two of three from the Nationals over the weekend and start a 3-game stand at home agains the Braves. Vijay Singh won the Shell Houston Open in a playoff against Jon Daly. Would have been fun to watch. This week the PGA is headed to Avondale, La. for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Weekends Over

Well, our weekend plans went pretty well. We went to Golden Corral Saturday morning. We took my mother-in-law and had a good meal. I like going there because I can have a lot of one thing, or a little of a lot of things.

We then took all of the kids to Lagoon. For those of you that don't know, Lagoon is an amusement park in the Salt Lake Valley. We had a pretty good time. Spent a lot of time deciding on which rides and who was going on each ride. Since we had the 2 little girls, there were some rides that someone had to stay off to watch them. We had a lot of fun and left earlier than originally planned because with little kids, they get tired and then they need naps. If they don't get naps, they become cranky and hard to manage. So, we took them home and let them get some rest.

Saturday night was to be a lazy night but I got a call to go visit one of the people in our neighborhood. It was a good visit and I'm glad I went.

Sunday was church and then bbq and my sister's house. It was probably one of the better parties because it was lighter than normal. Basically, that means we didn't have to yell at the kids as much as normal so it worked out for all of us.

All in all, it was a good weekend. Weather was difficult at times but other than that, we enjoyed it.

Not a Lot of Time

I don't have a ton of time to blog today. I'm pretty busy, but I wanted to say that things are going well and I'm looking forward to getting out into the yard tomorrow and getting some stuff done. I'll let you know how it goes.

In Sports: The Mets won big yesterday, 10-1 against the Marlins and play one of the MLB's hottest teams, Washington, today. The NFL Draft is this weekend and I'm hoping that the Niners take Alex Smith. Not only am I a University of Utah fan, I've been a Niners fan since I was pretty young. I think it would be a good fit. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Weekend Planning

Today, being Friday, indicates to me that tomorrow would be Saturday. (My logic is sensational, isn't it?) We had plans that got cancelled so we are now in the process of making new plans. We haven't yet because there are several people involved with the decision process.

While there are many different choices, I'm hopeful that we can have it all decided by this afternoon. That way, it makes the slowness of the normal Friday seem bearable.

I am hopeful that things will turn out because today is very boring....

Friday, Where are You?

Today has been a rough day. I'm pretty tired and can't really explain why. Last night I was up a couple of times, but other than that I slept like a log. When Jarik woke up to go to the bathroom, 45 minutes after I went to bed. When I woke up to help him, I was still in half a daze. Then Bree woke up and was coughing and gagging, then she puked on my pillow a little, it was popcorn kernals that she had eaten earlier in the night. I am ready for a weekend and want to sleep all weekend long. I'm not going to St. George, so my Saturday just opened up wide. Good for my yard, bad for me, who gets to work in the yard.

In Sports:I took the today off because I didn't want to limit myself, plus I was always adding yesterdays scores. Well the Jazz ended their horrible season with a lose, figures. The season is over and know I can start looking forward to next season. The Mets dropped one yesterday to the Marlins, and will play them again today. In golf, the Shell Houston Open started today. At last look there were two guys at -8, one being Vijay.

My World In a Minute....

Well, ok.. It may be longer or shorter than a minute depending on how fast you read. I know it'll take me longer than a minute to type the post, mostly because it seems that every third key or so is the delete key.

Life has been interesting. I have tried to post a couple of times, but the blogger website kept giving me an internal server error. I got one after I had typed a post and then couldn't get back in to repost.

The last time I logged onto the dashboard, or tried to logon, I got another error. At least it happened before I typed anything effectively saving me the time of typing. So, onto the post....

Life has been interesting for us. After Holly and Co. left, we have been trying to pick up the pieces and clean up the house. Unfortunately, we have had a lot of demands on our time making it difficult to get a whole lot done.

Mason got into another fight in school the other day. He was suspended from his class for the remainder of that day. Not entirely sure what happened because his teacher got it second hand and Mason tells his side. So, I hope that he was confronting the bully instead of BEING the bully.

Aurora is doing well with her violin. She played for her grandmother last night and did pretty good for a 1st year. If she practices more, she will be very good at it. Now if I can get her to be an effective "bedroom cleaner" life would be grand.

Nicole had her pictures done last night. We get kids pictures done every year and last night was her pictures for her 4th year (can't believe she's 4, but well go with those figures until I can prove them wrong.)

Jayna is effectively a nieusance. She gets into anything she can. AND she gets mad when you stop her. Sometimes she doesn't because something else has caught her eye and she now has a new focus for trouble.

So, that's the update on the kids. Life is pretty good because, well, they are all healthy and alive. We have a lot to accomplish around the house and things are going slow but we are going to try to get a better handle on the things that need to be done. Hopefully we can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel soon.

OK, Time to Post

Well Tuesday is half over, well more than half. I found a new sport or game that is a lot of fun. We, Harold, Jerry, and I, didn't have any racquetballs last night so we played ping pong. It was pretty fun. I didn't think that you could work up a sweat playing ping pong, but I did. Of course the heat was on and it got pretty hot, so that may have been a factor. Anyway, it was fun. Harold pretty much ran the table last night, Jerry and I won a few.

Today I ate a fortune cookie and instead of a fortune I got a deep thought. This thought actually made me worry. Here is what the fortune said There is a true and sincere friendship between you both. Now, imagine you order chinese food and you get this so called fortune. Now you have a couple things to worry about, either you are going to spend loads of cash seeking the best shrink to help with your voices, or you can finally come to grips that your voices aren't that bad, come on admit it, you have voices that you talk to daily. They keep you company, at least mine keep me company. hahahahaha! I guess you could be out to diner with that someone special and then alls well.

In Sports Today: The Mets won big yesterday and today they play Florida. The Jazz play their last game of the 2004-2005 season. Finally, the wound will stop bleeding.

Weather Roller Coaster

Well it's rainy and snowy again. After having the weekend in the 70's, it was in the low 40's/upper 30's yesterday. Welcome to Spring I guess...

Yesterday was a pretty good day, it was my oldest daughters b-day. It was pretty fun. She wanted to go to IHOP for dinner and so we went and they sang to her and it was all a pretty good evening for her. It was fun to watch her react to some of the stuff that happened for her birthday. Like Saturday, we had a Princess party for her. She had a few of her good friends come over and they had a good time. When her friends go there, it was funny to watch her welcome them to our house and give them big hugs. It was just funny to see her reaction. She loved the whole party, but the presents were by far the best part of her birthday. Then we had a family BBQ, and it was a good time. My aunt and uncle came over as well as a couple of my cousins and my grandparents. We had a good time showing off our house and just hanging out. It was all in all a great experience. Tiaree will start school in the Fall!

In Sports Today: Harold is going to lose in racquetball. I haven't played for a while, but I have a feeling that today is a good day to play racquetball and I'm in a winning mood. After a 5 game win streak the Mets have dropped two, one to Florida and one to Philadelphia. They will try to get back to their winning ways today when they play the Phillies once again. The Jazz won one last night against the Sacremento Kings and only have one more game this season, this horrible, horrible season. I guess Larry Miller apologized to the fans before yesterdays games and promised a good off season.

Fun For Friday

Well I don't know how fun it is to read my blog, as a matter of fact, I think that my readership has gone down to just me now...oh well. I usually don't make sense to anyone but the voices in my head anyway. Nothing much to write today, nothing to interesting has happend over the last little while, minus the fact that I'm a home owner, or mortgager, depending on who you talk to, and I'm getting scared about all the stuff I have to do. Everyone tells me how much they spent on stuff, like sprinkler systems and sod and all that fun stuff and i'm not looking forward to it. We'll have to see what happens in the near future. I'm tired of being in debt and don't want to go any farther if I can help it.

In Sports Today: After beating Houston yesterday by a score of 4-3, the Mets play Florida today in New York. The Jazz play Minnesota in the Delta Center. May not be a pretty game unless they play like they did against San Antonio. At least the Jazz are still playing and trying to win and haven't surrendered to vying for the lottery pick. The MCI Heritage is still being played and Peter Lonard is in the lead. I'd like to see Darren Clarke win this one, he's from Northern Ireland.

Quiet

It's quiet in my house. Very quiet. I don't know quite what to do with myself. Tracy started something on Tuesday that I've kept going and it is wonderful. He made the kids lay down for rest time. Now I know that sounds like I never made them have rest time but I did. I just made them get their pillows and watch PBS. Jarik would fall asleep but Tiaree would never even close her eyes. She is so dang stubborn. I don't know why it never clicked but when she doesn't have the t.v. to watch, she goes to sleep. Amazing. Then she is happier and I am happier and I have some nice quiet time in the afternoon. It's great. So I thank Tracy for showing me something that I should have been doing for months now. THANK YOU!!!

Dang it, as I'm writing this, Tiaree came wandering out. Today it didn't work. I knew it was too good to be true. I made her go lay back down but I bet she won't go to sleep now. Stupid luck anyway. Oh well. It was nice while it lasted.

Blah, Blah, Blah

I posted a pretty good blog earlier about Michael Savage, a radio DJ I listen to occasionally, but for some reason, it didn't post. So, I guess it wasn't meant to be.

The reason I bring it up is that he had said some stuff last night that got me thinking while I was driving around doing a stock up grocery trip. But, as the moment is gone and I really don't want to go over that stuff again at the moment, I will talk about shopping.

So, we went and spent a few hundred yesterday getting essential supplies; toilet paper, paper towels, food, new leather straps to tie up the kids since they chewed through the old ones, you know, normal essentials.

It is amazing how much things are these days. I started thinking about some stuff I talked about with some older people, retired-type individuals. A lot of people had been able to live with a single-income household with kids. Now, I'm not exactly certain why it cost more to live. I mean, when cost of living goes up, incomes generally follow so I make considerably more than they did but it costs me more for a loaf of bread, if that makes any sense.

Maybe its because we have more to spend money on or some things increased more than they should have. I used to hear where you could go to the matinee for $0.25. A ticket to a show costs around $7. $7!?!?! What is up with that?!?

They also didn't have much in the way of entertainment stuff like we do. I mean, they had fun with a stick and a tire. We have Nintendo, Playstation, computers, internet, DVD's, CD's, etc. That takes a big chunk out of the wallet also.

I'm thinking we've outgrown ourselves. We've made it too expensive to live. Groceries, for example, cost a lot of money. I have a pretty good amount set aside for groceries and we have learned to live on it. I mentioned to someone what my budget was and they were amazed that it was so low. Not that we eat extremely healthy at all, but we eat. We are trying to improve that because we should be eating better which means groceries will cost more.

Anyway, that's my rant and rave for the moment. I'll have something else to complain about later.

Nothing in General

So today is Thursday and the week has shaped out to be a pretty good one, minus being sick on Tuesday. Nothing too exciting has happened, but the week isn't over for another couple days.

Last night Chels and I went to WalMart with Bree to get some stuff for Tiaree's birthday. We were all dressed for warm weather because it was about 70ish degrees when we walked into WalMart around 8:15. The wind was blowing from the south. We came out to a totally different world it seemed. It was 48 degrees with strong winds from the north. I can't remember such a change happening when I noticed it like within an hour.

Well it's time for another meeting.

In Sports Today: The Jazz beat the Spurs! That was pretty cool. The Mets won yesterday and play Houston again today. The MCI Heritage started and at last check, Darren Clarke was in the lead.

I Hate Being Sick

So after a great Monday, I was sick yesterday (Tuesday). I started feeling it Monday afternoon, but it wasn't too bad to knock me down. When I woke up yesterday, I had a horrible headache and I felt like my head was in a tight box. I took some dayquil and started to feel better minus the pain when I swallow. I relaxed all day and watched the kids play, I also went outside for a bit to get some fresh air, nothing major, just walking around the yard trying to decide how things are going to be. Then I went and sat some more, by dinner time the pain in my head was back and I wanted to crash and sleep. I ate dinner and shortly thereafter took so Nyquil and slept through most of Mary Poppins and was a little dizzy when I put my kids in bed. I'm feeling a lot better today, the Nyquil knocked me out and I slept pretty good. So I'm feeling better today, which is nice.

In Sports Today: The Mets play Houston today, they were off yesterday. The Jazz play San Antonio in the Delta Center. After losing to Golden State last night, I'm not expecting a win tonight, a close lose would be acceptable, I've set my expectations pretty low on the Jazz this year.

Getting Old Sux

A member of our ward is putting together a softball team. He is trying to do a stake league and if the stake does not want to participate, he is organizing our team for the City league. I really like softball so I'm excited to play.

Yesterday was practice. I didn't do too bad. I missed a couple of fly balls that I should have caught, missed a few grounders, that sort of thing. All in all, I didn't do as bad as I could have for not having played in quite some time.

Running around out there, I realized how out of shape I really am. On top of that, because I am getting older, my body doesn't respond as well to dramatic increased physical activity as it used to, meaning, I'm a little sore today. More specifically, my back. I haven't done as much so my lower back got a little tweeked during practice so its a little difficult to move today. Guess it's time to start strengthening my lower back.

I'm hoping that next practice will be a little better.

Paranoia

It has been a while since I posted, so I figure I better get something in.

There was a movie over the weekend called SuperVolcano which documents one possibility of the super volcano underYellowstone National Park. Now, I don't necessarily get caught up in all the doomsday predictions so much that I get paranoid, but like to see the possibilities in case of a disaster. We all know, or should know, that there are a lot of faces a disaster can take.

Our church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints tells its members that everyone should store food and water for emergencies. These emergencies can take the form of HUGE events or little events. Huge events include just as this show states, super volcanoes, but it also includes, earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, floods, or a variety of natural disasters. Smaller events can include even something as personal as a layoff or being out of work. Think of how wonderful a food storage would be if you couldn't afford to go buy groceries.

This show got me thinking of the devestation of Mother Nature. This volcano could blow soon or in the next 100,000 years. (Not that I'm sticking around that long to see it.) With the major earthquakes in the Sumatra region, (where another volcano is located by the way), and the tsunami of Dec. 26, you never know when things are going to go bad.

I'm not saying that we should live our lives as though something bad is going to happen tomorrow, but we shouldn't live our lives as though everything is A-OK either. We need to find a balance between having fun, living life, and the possibilities of the need for survival.

So, life continues, but we are now a little wiser and more aware. Don't we all feel better?

Monday Following a Great Weekend

Once again, I'll state that I like Mondays. This past weekend was a lot of fun, a lot of work, but a lot of fun. On Saturday, we went and cleaned up my mom's house. It looks awesome. Then we came home and didn't do too much. Just lounged around and listened to iTunes and then watched Fat Albert. Sunday was the usual church thing and then we came home and I watched golf.

Growing up, I didn't understand why people liked to watch golf, like my grandpa would have it on once in a while when we'd visit. I never understood. I like to play golf and once I started playing a lot in Logan, I kind of got this fever for the game. It's an awesome game where you make money because you are good. You put it all on the line against a whole bunch of golfers that want the #1 spot at the end of the tourney. I have a few favorite golfers, Tiger, Phil, Mike Weir, Chris DiMarco, who is new on the list. And then there's the ones I hate, ok the one I hate, don't know why exactly, but I just don't like Vijay. Anyway, the Masters was this last weekend and it is always fun to watch the Majors being played. In case you missed it Tiger won in a playoff against Chris DiMarco. It was pretty fun to watch. I like to see if I can better myself after watching them do the little things they do. 'Cept, I don't golf much anymore. Anyway, it was fun and if you haven't watched golf and your a fan of sports, give it a try before you knock it.

In Sports Today: The Mets won against the Houston Astros 8 - 4, they won one on Sunday against Atlanta and lost one against Atlanta on Saturday. The Jazz don't play tonight, but they did beat New Orleans and then lost to Dallas over the weekend. I guess one of the rookies got in a fist fight in the parking lot after the game with Jerry Stackhouse.

It's Beginning to look a lot like...Christmas

What is going on. Snow in the mountains after April 1. That would be my rule anyway, but that actually happening, ha. So yesterday it was 75 with a little wind, but it was nice, shorts weather. Today, snowing, at least where I'm at and according to KSL's website it says it's 57, but there is snow up here at work. I myself think that it's good to get the moisture, but let's get it in the mountains and let the valley be nice. Anyway, I always complain about the weather when it's bad, but I like warm weather.

In Sports Today: The Masters continues the leaders are at -5, the Jazz play one of the few teams in the NBA they have a better record than, New Orleans, which have 2 out of 3 this year. The Mets play in Atlanta after a 3 game stint with Cinncinati, which they lost them all.

2000 Calorie Diet...ugh!!!

So I went to lunch today at Burger King and for a little under 7 bucks, I got a lot of food and with that food came a lot of calories. Around 2000 calories with fries and a drink. Sounds yummy to me...not. After I realized that I was getting fatter as I did the research on how many calories the Ultimate Double Whopper, which has bacon and cheese on it, it hit me that I'm not going to ever loose weight. I also read that in order to loose one pound you have to burn off 3500 more calories a day than you put in. So in other words if I want to loose 1 pound I'd have to burn over 5500 calories today. That's a lot of exercise. According to a calorie burn calculator, running 8 mph for an hour only burns 1132 calories. Now if you are me, running anywhere for more than about 2 minutes kills me, I'm so out of shape. Well It's time to start trying to loose weight and stop eating like a pig.

In Sports Today: The Masters started today, the Mets lost and the Jazz don't play(thank Heavens, can't the season just end)

It's working for me :)

Tracy said that the dashboard wasn't working. Well it's working just fine for me. What your problemo Tracy??? Haha, it just likes me better.

They lied to me.....

Thanks to the wonderful weather we've been having, (rain/snow then sunny, then back to rain, then ok, then snow, then...), I have contracted your common cold. I hate being sick and there are a lot of people who are catching it (not from me since everyone else has been sick and I'm catching the tail end of it.) People at work, the kids, it seems everyone is getting sick.

So, I decided to go to the store this morning before work to get some medicine to help fight this nasty little bug. I got Vick's DayQuil to help me. It states that it doesn't cause drowsiness. Well, I have to tell you, I'm drowsy. I think they lied. I can tell that the medicine has kicked in because my head is swimming and if it weren't for backspace, you would see how poorly I've been typing.

Granted, I'm sick so that my contribute to my tiredness and I got up early for work. Also that my daughter came into bed and started coughing in my ear waking me up. And that I tossed and turned all night because I couldn't breathe. And I may have also gone to bed a little later than normal last night. So, I'm drowsy.... Big deal... I want nothing more than to be home in bed, listening to a movie as I drift off into a fitful cold-induced slumber.

The more I talk about a nap, the better it sounds. Even the word sounds really good. Say it with me... nnnnnaaaaaaappppp.... Nap. Nappy, nap-naptime...

I really need to lay off the cold medicine. I think it's making me a little goofy. I'm too tired to think about it so I'll go to sleep and figure it all out later. Mostly because I forgot what I was talking about...

Funny Comercials

I was driving home from work yesterday when I heard a commercial announcing the Jazz game last night. In the commercial they said something to the effect of "Come watch your gutsy Jazz take on the Trailblazers from Portland". Now, the funny part of that sentence is the gutsy part. I was thinking why would they use the word gutsy when they were talking about the Jazz. Now, let me preface with the fact that I'm a big Jazz fan and hate to see them lose, which is pretty much the norm these days. So when they said gutsy, I realized that when anyone is playing that bad it would take a lot of guts to take the court and play every night. I'm looking forward to next year when Kirlenko and Boozer can get healthy. Anyway, I just found that humorous.

Another commercial to watch for on T.V. is the Dairy Queen commercial with the dad teaching his son the game of basketball. I laughed for like 10 minutes, even thinking aobut it makes me laugh a little.

Daylight Savings Time

Last Sunday at around 2am, we started Daylight Savings Time. In my opinion, one of the most outdated, antiquated things we do. The whole idea of Daylight Savings Time is to save on the burning of candles by shifting the time so that the sunrise is more in line with the feeding of barn animals.

Now, I'm pretty sure that I don't have to get up and feed barn animals and I also am not concerned about burning too many candles. The whole idea of "Saving" daylight is rediculous anyway. I mean, come on! Where would you save it?

I think daylight savings should be done away with for several reasons.

  1. Throws off our timing. We may gain an hour in the fall, but we definately pay for it in the spring. Why in the world would we want to confuse everything by changing the clocks backwards or forwards? Aren't our lives confusing enough as it is?

  2. Saving Candles.I don't know too many people that still burn candles for light. Candles are more for fun or when the power goes out. I don't go through a lot of candles so I don't think this is a major concern.

  3. Changing Clocks.I always hate remembering to change my clock. Since I don't watch a lot of TV or get the newspaper, I have to rely on word-of-mouth for time changes. I usually am told during the week but the time doesn't change until Sunday morning at like 2am. Why? If we are going to do this, I'd rather have it done at noon. That way, I can have lunch twice.

Just a couple of thoughts. I think we should start a petition and do away with this event. I could go for, instead of repeating an hour, repeating a day. Twice a year, we have 2 Saturdays in a row instead of two 2am on Sunday morning. That sounds better to me.

Moved In!!!

Finally, the move is over and we are in the house. Besides spending over 1200.00 over the weekend I'm feeling pretty good about the whole thing. The house looks great. My advice though, don't try and hang blinds when you or your kids are tired. We were trying to put the blinds up in my daughters room on Saturday night. What a chore. She was tired, so not only am I frustrated because the blind won't go up and I'm retarded when it comes to doing stuff like that, I have my 5 year old, complaining that she's tired and wants everyone out of her room so she can go to bed. Then my son, such a punk, loves to torment my daughter when she is crabby, and he was doing a good job of it. Well, the blinds finally got put up and I put the girl's beds together and my daughter finally got to go to sleep. It was an adventure that I don't want to experience again.

The house looks nice with all the blinds and there are only a few holes to patch up in the walls where I missed. All in all, I am glad to be in the house.

Waving

As we all know, kids can be very entertaining. Sometimes they don't realize it and when something happens that causes them to be upset, you can't help but laugh out loud. Friday night was just such an event.

We were driving around Salt Lake to run errands. We were stopped at a stoplight. We were sitting there waiting to make a left-hand turn when I noticed the Little Caesar's character standing on the corner waving at passing vehicles. It was actually a person in a costume for those of you that couldn't figure that part out but anyway, there he was waving.

I called back to my kids and said, "Wave to the Little Caesar mascot." We made the left-hand turn and we were on our way to the next stop light when my 4-year old starts crying. The conversation goes as follows:

Dad: "What's the matter?"
Nicole: "I didn't get to wave...." (more crying)
Dad: (laughs) "That's ok, baby. You can wave to the guy standing on the next corner, Ok?"
Nicole: "Ok." (Sobs but crying is gone)

So, as we started driving again, I said, "Ok, wave." I think she did but didn't look back to check. She seemed content for the rest of the ride to our destination. I did check the mirror and the guy continued on his journey unaware that a 4-year old child had waved to him in substitution for the Little Caesar's mascot.

4-year old content, major catastrophy averted, life is good.

Another Day of Waiting

UGH... I just posted and the thing errored out on me, so now I'm going to write the same thing again. Good I don't have a photographic memory or anything.

I finally have the keys to my house, we took some stuff over last night when we got the keys. Now I have all day today to wait. It shouldn't be too bad though, I have a lunch meeting at noon, I have a design patterns book to read, and I have an ERD to create. Sounds like fun, aye. Well because I am truly a nerd, it sounds fun to me.

Another Day of Waiting

Well I have the keys, we dropped stuff off last night and now I get to wait some more. I am going to try and be busy all day and hopefully that will help. I have a meeting at noon, that we'll probably leave at 11:40 for and then I'm going to walk over to the hospital and get a $5 gift cert to Best Buy. What I'm going to do the rest of the day, probably read design patterns or whatever people here at work have for me to do. I think I'm going to create and ERD as well. It should be a good day.

April Fool's Day

I have never been one for jokes or pranks, in fact, I'm actually pretty bad at them. April Fool's Day will always be a significant day for me though. April Fool's Day was kind of a running joke with my father.

Every time this day came around every year, my dad would tell me of his two greatest April Fool's jokes. He enlisted in the Navy on April 1st and he started his own business on April 1st. Each time he would tell the story, he would say that he signed up for the Navy on April 1st and once he got there, he tried to tell them it was an April Fool's joke. Same thing with his business. "It was just a joke" or "I was only kidding" were common punch lines to his jokes.

So, as you ponder your own shenanigans on this day of Fool's and Pranks, don't try these two. Dad proved that these jokes don't get a very good chuckle for quite a few years.
