What a great weekend to head to St. George. I got to leave a lot of stresses behind for a few days. Chels, the kids, and I all headed down to St. George early Friday morning. By early, I mean we left our house at 4:30am. We were going to leave Thursday night, but with the puppy being sick and Chels' mom's graduation, we decided to get up early and leave Friday.
The trip was a lot of fun. On Friday, we got down there only making one stop, to get breakfast at McDonald's. The kids didn't like the Egg McMuffins that we got them. Tiaree ate it all, but she ate it in shifts, first the egg, then the ham, then the McMuffin. Which brings up a question, what is the difference between and McMuffin and a regular muffin. Another thing that pops into mind, speaking of the way McDonald's is taking over the fast food thought process. On Saturday, we went to KFC after a semi-long day at Zion National Park. I tried to order a 16 piece chicken mcnugget bucket with mashed taters, coleslaw, and baked beans. Whoops. Anyway, back to the first day of the trip. We got to St. George and unloaded and decided to head out to Snow Canyon to do a couple hikes. They were fun, the kids had a blast. We were going to hit the sand dunes there, but we decided to hit them last and the wind had picked up so we decided not to hit the sand dunes. That night was dinner at Texas Roadhouse. It was good, I would have only given my steak a C, it wasn't very good.
Saturday, we got up and headed out to Zions. It was pretty fun. The shuttles are running and it took forever to find a spot to park, but we finally got one and we ate and headed up the canyon. We did the Lower Emerald pool hike, starting at Zion Lodge and ending at the Grotto Picnic area. It was a long hike and I ended up carrying Bree the last little bit on my shoulders. The kids were getting really whiney so we decided to finish the day off with the river walk hike, which takes you back to the Narrows. We only got up that trail about 10 minutes before I'd had enough of the whining and we headed back. We were going to get ice cream at the lodge, but the line was long, so we just decided to head back to St. George. It was mid 70's in Zion and it was beautiful. KFC for dinner, like I mentioned earlier, a trip out to Iceberg for shakes and then home to crash.
Sunday we got up and headed out to Gunlock to do some caching. It was a lot of fun, didn't find a whole lot of caches but the area was cool to see. I had some serious sinus issues going on and hiking around finding those caches wasn't much fun. We headed back to IHOP for lunch and then it was about time to hit the road. We stopped in Cedar City to visit Chels' sister and then drove the rest of the way home without stopping. We put a bunch of movies on the iPod and bought the AV cables and the kids had their headphones on and watched like 3 movies on the way home.
All in all it was a great trip. I'll post pictures later.
